Start with the whole presentation

Look beyond one posture
or one muscle.

Neck symptoms can change with workload, sleep, stress, training exposure, recovery, sustained positions, and movement. A useful assessment considers what aggravates or eases the problem and what you need your neck and upper body to tolerate.

Depending on your presentation and preferences, care may begin with Registered Massage Therapy, progressive exercise, or a coordinated plan. New neurological symptoms, significant trauma, or other concerning changes require medical assessment rather than guesswork.

The essentials,
up front.

Who this helps

Busy professionals, desk workers, drivers, active adults, and athletes whose neck symptoms are affecting work, sleep, lifting, training, golf, tennis, or martial arts.

What we work on

Recurring neck discomfort, stiffness, reduced turning tolerance, tension around the neck and shoulders, reduced confidence under load, and uncertainty about how to resume normal activity.

Why work with Steve

Steve combines regulated RMT care with CSCS® strength programming and high-performance coaching experience. He explains the plan, measures response, and recommends referral when symptoms require medical or neurological assessment.

A useful starting point

A structured neck plan may help when…

  • Desk work, travel, or driving repeatedly aggravates the same area.
  • Short-term relief has not improved confidence with normal activity.
  • Turning, reaching, lifting, or training feels restricted or uncertain.
  • You want treatment and exercise to support the same practical goal.

What happens next

Assess. Decide.
Progress.

Clarify the behaviour

Review onset, symptom pattern, daily demands, previous care, relevant health history, and the activities you want to improve.

Screen the pathway

Identify whether in-scope RMT care or exercise is appropriate and whether medical, neurological, or other assessment should come first.

Choose the first step

Use hands-on care, movement options, load modification, progressive exercise, or a combination based on your presentation and preferences.

Reassess and build

Track response and progress toward the range, duration, strength, and activity demands that matter to you.

Clinical boundaries

Some neck symptoms require prompt medical assessment.

Seek urgent medical care after significant head or neck trauma, or for new or worsening weakness, numbness in multiple limbs, difficulty walking, loss of coordination, changes in vision or speech, difficulty swallowing, fainting, severe headache, fever or systemic illness, or changes in bladder or bowel function. This page is educational and cannot determine the cause of your symptoms.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before
you request.

Can you diagnose a pinched nerve or nerve-root compression?

No. Steve can review symptom behaviour and perform an assessment within RMT or strength-and-conditioning scope, but he does not provide a medical diagnosis. New, progressive, or significant neurological symptoms require appropriate medical assessment.

Is posture the cause of my neck pain?

A single posture does not explain every presentation. Sustained positions, work demands, movement options, recovery, stress, sleep, training exposure, and other factors may all be relevant. Assessment focuses on the factors that can guide a practical decision for you.

Should I book massage therapy or exercise rehabilitation?

That depends on your symptoms, goals, preferences, and the activities you need to tolerate. Steve can help you choose RMT, an exercise assessment, or a coordinated plan after a brief initial conversation.

Do I need an X-ray or MRI before starting?

Not everyone does. Imaging and diagnosis are medical decisions based on the history and presentation. If your symptoms require medical evaluation or imaging, Steve will recommend referral rather than interpreting the findings outside his scope.

A direct next step

Tell Steve what you want
to get back to.

You do not need to choose the perfect service first. Share your goal, what has been limiting you, and a few preferred times. Steve will help identify the most appropriate starting point.
